Napa Valley Yacht Club Hosting Disabled American Veterans

Continuing a program which began in 2007, the Napa Valley Yacht Club will host approximately 120 veterans from the Veterans Home of California and The Pathway Home, both in Yountville, this week at its clubhouse and dock at 100 Riverside Drive in Napa.

The weeklong event is being co-sponsored by the Napa Valley Yacht Club and the Disabled American Veterans of Santa Rosa and Monterey.

The vets are brought to the club and assisted by nurses and therapists from the vets home.

Members of the NVYC will provide lunch each day to two separate groups of veterans, with the assistance of volunteers from the Santa Rosa DAV.

After lunch, the vets will be taken for a boat ride and fishing trip by the crew of the “Independence,” a 49-ft. Defever powerboat.

The “Independence” is owned by Monterey Bay Veterans and is operated by volunteers.

The group provides rehabilitation and diversion therapy to disabled veterans and wounded warriors.

The Monterey group sailed to Sacramento and Alameda before coming to Napa during their month-long outreach cruise.

The veterans groups, as well as the NVYC, are non-profit organizations.
