I didn't know anything about it.
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) December 9, 2012 at 04:14 am
I'd been asking around but couldn't find anyone who knew when it was going to be taking place. Robert surprised me with these photos. Thanks, Robert!
Sharkgirl December 9, 2012 at 01:58 pm
Didn't know about it until this article. Bummer. I would love to have taken my son.
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) December 9, 2012 at 02:08 pm
I really hope next year the skippers will let folks know in advance and list it in our free calendar on Napa Valley Patch (napavalley.patch.com/events/new). Robert told me only a few people were out watching, probably because nobody knew it was coming.
Julie capito December 9, 2012 at 02:51 pm
I was waiting for this - a notification would have been nice! I miss it every year. How do we get on the list?
s.w. December 9, 2012 at 03:09 pm
I am really starting to get annoyed with Napa...all these events happen and don't give prior notice. Those of us who have stuck around and live here with a young family would love stuff to do with our children (not to mention for free!), minus alcohol!! Seriously a big bummer....
Amber Schueler December 9, 2012 at 06:03 pm
Awe I am sad! We had no idea either! We would have loved this! I think maybe the people who put it on should have done better marketing for it. Next year I hope they do!
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) December 9, 2012 at 06:07 pm
It's a private group of yacht owners, I believe, rather than a municipal event.
Mary Richardson December 9, 2012 at 06:19 pm
When I saw the photos, I thought it was just me who hadn't been paying attention this year .... I love the lighted boat parade!
Belle (Orchid Lady) December 9, 2012 at 07:59 pm
I'm not sure, but don't they all sail out of the harbor/docks that are at the end of Jefferson? There is a dead end street, we used to go out and fish from the banks. I recall seeing some of those yachts decorated, I think.
Mark Mathews December 9, 2012 at 08:46 pm
This great traditional activity of free willed Americans will be banned, once the dictates of extreme progressives force the boat owners off the river due to the waste of fossil fuels; you just wait and see...
Mary Richardson December 9, 2012 at 09:12 pm
I've seen some of the decorated boats in the past out at the Napa Marina.

LOL.
de·lu·sion n. 1. a. The act or process of deluding. b. The state of being deluded. 2. A false belief or opinion: labored under the delusion that success was at hand. 3. Psychiatry A false belief strongly held in spite of invalidating evidence, especially as a symptom of mental illness: delusions of persecution.

OKay Mark, I'm waiting...
Any idea how long this might take? I mean, should I just call for a pizza? Or does this wait involve stocking up on food and toilet tissue? I'd really like to know, because I have a massage with a mani/pedi on Friday.
V_Therese December 10, 2012 at 04:28 am
If they went to all of that work putting on those lights, certainly they are still on there for the rest of the holiday season? Maybe they can do an encore parade? The river is there every night!
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) December 10, 2012 at 12:43 pm
I got to ride along on one of the boatsmany years ago, when I was with KVON. Audio only, alas! But somewhere I think I still have a recording of the sound of traffic passing over the old Maxwell Bridge grid deck, as we yachted along underneath it.
One thing I discovered is that it's no small job lining up that many boats, even under power, in parade formation on a river of limited width and variable depths.
Mary Richardson December 10, 2012 at 04:16 pm
Roger that, Louisa!
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) December 13, 2012 at 11:49 pm
I just checked out my radio story about the 2004 boat parade. There were three times as many boats that year! Can you imagine 27 lighted boats on the river? Anyway, the folks at the NV Yacht Club say they'll be sure to loop us in next year but just to be on the safe side, make a note on your 2013 planner: My source says the parade is "usually the first weekend where tides are favorable.
The boats leave from our dock at 100 Riverside Drive and tour the neighborhoods of River Park and the Napa Yacht Club. The water downtown is too shallow for boats to go upriver like we used to." Anyone who wants to hear that radio story can email me at louisa.hufstader@patch.com and I will send the audio file - it is less than 7MB.

Hi Keri, Thanks for letting us know. I tried to correct the &#39, but it appears to be notRead More working.

Is there any way to remove the blogs from the news page? Blogs are not news. They are opinionRead More pieces, and I would like more news. thanks!
Keri Brenner (Editor) June 17, 2013 at 05:41 pm
Hi Beau and F: Yes, the &#39 are still there and not going away. I trust that tech people areRead More working on this...Sorry. And as far as the blogs being on the news stream, I can't change that except to keep the blogs mostly at the bottom and the news on top. The new platform is designed to highlight the blogs more than they were before. Occasionally if there is a timely, useful or highly newsworthy blog post I will move it up, but in general the news will be in the first 5 slots and the blog below. Hope that helps. Keri

It is easy to judge people from a distance. All of us have up and down times in life, none of usRead More have the same internal or external supports to deal with it all. Maybe those among us who feel superior could try to take a moment or more to see life from the perspective of someone who (even from a position of pain or vulnerability) has too much pride to accept the stigma of being in need of the social translation of "the lowest of the low" homeless shelter or addiction counseling. It feels good to try lifting others up rather than tearing them down; Maybe your smile or expression of something other than disgust could make a positive difference to move a person in need toward help.

Lo! And behold! If you check today's (Friday, June 14) Fugitive page on Napa Valley Patch you willRead More see Benjamin Paz, the one and same who was arrested for being naked at the Expo.

I'd like to show appreciation to my grandfather on Father's Day. He taught me how to cook a roast,Read More garden, work with tools, use a shotgun and appreciate our surrounding waters. Always a patient man, my grandfather showed me so much. I got scared once when I broke a tool when we were building a skateboard ramp. He just replied with, at least you know not to do that anymore. I always admired how my grandfather loves my grandmother so much. That's old, true love. Fairy tail kinda stuff. Love we all want to grow old with. I love my grandpa with all my heart.
Keri Brenner (Editor) June 17, 2013 at 06:19 pm
Hi Loui Loui: Your grandpa sounds wonderful!

Loui Loui, it's called false pretenses and misleading claims. While I understand it's not theRead More editor's or tech's fault, releasing a product to the public as "New with better features!" shouldn't mean that it comes with glitches, bugs and frustration. And unlike Google+ and FB, Napa Valley Patch didn't "come out", we had a NVP that was working perfectly fine and Corporate Patch decided to upgrade. Can you imagine the ether-riots if FB did an "upgrade" full of glitches and bugs"?
Unfiltered Steve Simoneau June 13, 2013 at 10:54 pm
Actually, Loui, I left FB two years ago and haven't been back since. And while Patch and FB may beRead More "free" services they rely on users to exist. It's a symbiotic relationship, so both sides must be content for it to work efficiently.

Why the Hispanics need their own Chambers Of Commerce is a mystery to me. Racism is the promotion ofRead More one race above others. If I supported a White/Caucasian Chamber Of Commerce I'd be labeled a bigot and racist. One Chamber Of Commerce should suffice for ALL!
