Napa Festival Celebrates Seniors

Napa's newest hometown festival makes its debut Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Veterans Memorial Park.

A new festival in downtown Napa is especially designed for seniors, according to an announcement on the City of Napa website:

"Celebrating Seniors" will feature entertainment, activities and vendors on Sunday October 7 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Napa.

This first-time event, inspired by Napa Aging Commissioner Betty Rhodes, is a chance to show that "older people are vital, active and have a lot of fun together."

The event is free, and many downtown restaurants will offer special discounts to people attending the event.

Senior clubs and organizations will line Main Street, and the stage will be filled with the sounds of Cabaret Singer Suzi Gilbert, the San Francisco Scottish Fiddlers, and Bassist Joy Perrin.
There will be Zumba exercise, cheerleading routines, and Mayor Jill Techel will lead a series of games, including paddleball and hula hoops.
Free transportation is on buses from St. Helena, Calistoga and American Canyon, especially chartered for this event.  Signups for transportation must be made in advance by calling 226-7127.
