3rd Annual Tribute to Napa County Centenarians is This Month

Event is Sept. 24 at the Yountville Community Center.

Editor's Note: Following is a letter to Napa Valley Patch from Brad Wagenknecht, Napa County Supervisor, District 1.

Dear Editor:

Centenarians have defied life expectancy projections. They hold the keys to longevity and quality of life and we have much to learn from them.

Last year in September, we were honored by the participation of 10 citizens of Napa County, who had attained the age of 100 or more, at our second tribute to Napa County Centenarians.

They shared some incredible life stories with their fellow centenarians and our audience of family members, caretakers, and local officials.

Sept. 22 has been designated as National Centenarian's Day. Napa County has scheduled its third tribute to Napa County Centenarians as close as possible to that date, for Sept. 24, 2013.

Because our celebration has grown, this year, thanks to the generosity of the Town of Yountville, we are holding our celebration in the beautiful Heritage Room at the Yountville Community Center, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at 6516 Washington Street, Yountville.

Centenarians, their family members and caretakers are welcome to join us for cake and stories.

If you know a centenarian who may wish to participate in our tribute, please have them RSVP to Board of Supervisor's Staff Assistant JoAnn Melgar at (707) 299-1478 or joann.melgar@countyofnapa.org.
