It is the first of four river cleanup events run by Kayak NV and its partners: City of Napa, County of Napa, Napa Recycling and Waste Services, the Foundation for Napa Recreation and Compadres Rio Grill.

Registered participants will spend two hours paddling along the banks of the Napa River, collecting and separating recyclables from trash debris. River otters and an abundance of bird species add to the breathtaking vistas.

Cost is $20 and includes an off-the-menu lunch at Compadres Rio Grille following the Earth Day and other cleanup events on May 19, July 20 and Aug 17.

In 2012, 800 pounds of garbage and in excess of 300 pounds of recyclables were removed through the Earth Day and other cleanup events run by Kayak Napa Valley, organizers said.

"The results prove how a small number of committed people can make a big difference," they added.

Registration is through Napa Park & Rec at www.naparec.com. Space is limited to 12 people
