Napa’s 9/11 Memorial Coalition invites the public to see four steel I-beams from the World Trade Center Towers lifted onto the Napa 9/11 Memorial site on Wednesday morning, June 26.

Work will begin around 7:30 a.m. at the site at 1075 Main St. and will be suspended at 9:40 a.m. while members of the coalition and design team thank all who have donated to the memorial fund, and the numerous contractors and suppliers who have generously provided equipment and labor.

The beams, averaging 22’ in height, were obtained from the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey, and are part of a memorial sculpture and garden currently under construction at the Main Street location, near the east entrance of Kohl’s Department Store.

The beams will anchor glass panels etched with names of each victim of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

Members of the 9/11 Memorial Coalition plan a brief moment of acknowledgement to honor and celebrate this milestone in the creation of the memorial, a community-wide effort that started in 2010.

The 9/11 Memorial Sculpture and Garden will be completed this summer. To learn more about the project and to make a donation, visit napa911memorial.org.
