Distinguished researchers from a number of the country’s leading cancer research centers will discuss the latest advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment in a Cancer Research Symposium hosted by The V Foundation for Cancer Research. 

Members of the Scientific Advisory Committee of The V Foundation will describe current advances and discoveries into clinical applications, new diagnostics and alternative treatments to cancer at the two-hour session led by Robert C. Bast Jr., M.D., vice president for translational research at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. 

The V Foundation’s 2011 V Scholar, Dr. William Redmond, Ph.D., from the Robert W. Franz Cancer Research Center, Providence Portland Medical Center, will be presenting on the hot topic, immunotherapy, the treatment that uses certain parts of a person’s immune system to fight diseases such as cancer. The symposium will include a Q&A session offering attendees the opportunity to direct questions to some of the top physicians in the country. 

The symposium is part of The V Foundation’s 16th Annual Wine Celebration weekend, its yearly signature event to raise funds for cancer research, however the symposium is free and open to the public.
