Community Corner

The Queen Rocks Buckingham Palace

The 37th annual Day for the Queen, the annual fundraiser for Queen of the Valley Medical Center, will take on a British tone this year with the theme “The Queen Rocks Buckingham Palace.” The annual fundraising event, hosted by Queen of the Valley Foundation, brings together Napa Valley business and community leaders, athletes, trendsetters, former patients and friends in support of the hospital. This year events will take place on two Fridays a week apart, at Silverado Resort and Spa: the golf tournament is on Friday, August 15, and the fashion show and luncheon are on Friday, August 22.

Friday, August 15 features two golf tournaments in the Murray Memorial Golf Tournament on the Silverado South Course: both the Shamble and Scramble formats are available for the 1:00 p.m. tee time. Entry fees, which are $195/individual or $780/foursome, include golf, lunch and giveaways just for the tournament, followed by an awards ceremony and silent auction.

On Friday, August 22, a reception begins at 11 a.m. followed by a luncheon and fashion show featuring clothing from The Mustard Seed Clothing Company and Williamson & Co. Menswear. Guests will also have the opportunity to enter a drawing to win a selection of British-themed gift baskets. Tickets are $100/person or $1,500/premium table for 10.

The event this year will honor Liz Davis for her extraordinary contributions to numerous worthy organizations that make the Napa Valley such a wonderful place to work and live. Liz, who simply wants to make a difference in her community, has been involved for over a decade as a past Queen of the Valley Foundation board member and as an organizer and steering committee member of the Day for the Queen fashion show. She has served on the board of the Napa Valley College Foundation, the Napa City Library, Healthy Moms and Babies and Napa Chamber of Commerce.

Proceeds from this year’s Day for the Queen will support a new patient information management system for Queen of the Valley’s Regional Cancer Center. This technology will centralize diagnostic, radiation and medical oncology patient data into a single user interface accessible by multidisciplinary teams across multiple locations—it will track a cancer patient wherever he or she is treated. A key component to ensuring the best outcomes for cancer patients is the integration of technology to help improve patient care and safety through evidence-based treatment plans. This technology will enhance the physician and patient experience and increase the quality of care available to patients in the Napa Valley and surrounding communities.

Day for the Queen draws on the support of many talented and philanthropic-minded individuals, including Cindi Dwyer and Myrna Andrews, event co-chairs, and Dan Dwyer and Jim Andrews, golf tournament co-chairs. Supporters of Day for the Queen also include Silverado Resort & Spa, AVMS, Bell Products Inc. Mechanical Contractors, Classic Party Rentals, Clover Stornetta Farms, The Doctors Company, KVON/KVYN, The Meadows, Napa Valley, Cardiothoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery, Napa Valley Jewelers, Napa Valley Life Magazine, Napa Valley Marketplace, Quinlan’s Tire Service and REACH Air Medical Services, Frys.com is sponsoring the golf tournament this year.
