Napa Stylist Team "Makes the Cut" in Berkeley

More than two dozen members of the Saint Mary's College High School community in Berkeley gave the precious gift of hair at the school's annual hair donation event on Tuesday, February 18.  Nervousness gave way to cheers from onlookers as long ponytails were snipped off, then squeals of delight and, "It's so cute!!!" when the  volunteer stylists finished with each donor.  Four of the five stylists came all the way from Napa for the event again this year.  Kayla, Angie, Ashley, and Christian of The Parlor for Hair Design on Lincoln in Napa, volunteered their time and talents, making the donors feel extra-special at this very special donation event.  The small conference room, with usually eight or ten donors, was packed with happy students, friends and supporters, moms and little sisters as young as seven ready to donate hair, and delightful thank you treats and snacks for everyone provided by faculty members and students alike.  Thanks to the donors, stylists, bakers, and faculty coordinators for a great afternoon, and to the wonderful maintenance crew who set up and cleaned up LOTS of hair!  The more than twenty feet of donated hair will help to create hairpieces for those with illnesses that cause hair loss.  A special event, indeed.

Saint Mary's College High School was founded in San Francisco in 1863 as the secondary department of Saint Mary's College, and has been conducted by the De La Salle Christian Brothers since 1868.  It is the oldest of the Brothers' schools in the West.  The Brothers, founded in 1680 in Reims,  France, also conduct Justin-Siena High School and Mont La Salle in Napa, schools throughout the United States, and in 84 countries worldwide.
