Ian Cauble, Sonoma State alumnus and Master Sommelier, is returning to SSU for a special viewing of "Somm," a film documenting his journey to becoming the 197th Master Sommelier in history. The event is open to the public and takes place on March 28 at 6 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.
The showing will begin with a food and wine pairing selected by Cauble and Eric Lee, Sonoma State's executive chef and Food Network star. Cauble will answer questions from the audience after the film.
"Somm" takes place in six countries over the span of two years and documents four sommeliers. It gives viewers an inside look at becoming a Master Sommelier, the highest distinction in fine wine and beverage service, as well as the incredibly extensive, four-level education and exam process. Cauble joins the ranks of 135 Master Sommeliers in North America and 214 worldwide.

Cauble has received multiple sommelier awards, including Best Young Sommelier in the World. He recently co-founded SommSelect, a direct-to-consumer website where wine enthusiasts receive special offers selected by Cauble, with a fellow SSU alumnus.
"I wouldn't be a Master Sommelier today if I hadn't attended Sonoma State," said Cauble. "The connections I made changed the trajectory of my life."

The special viewing of "Somm" will take place on Friday, March 28 at 6 p.m. in the SSU Student Center Ballroom. Tickets are $25 per person and include a wine and hor d'ouevres pairing selected by Master Sommelier Ian Cauble and Sonoma State Executive Chef Eric Lee. Seating is limited.
