Collection event set for sharps and pharmaceuticals

Did you know it is illegal to put “sharps” (needles, syringes with needles, disposable lancets) in the trash? Did you know that when unused medicines or controlled substances are flushed down the drain, they end up in our waterways and pollute the environment? To make it easy to safely dispose of sharps and drugs, the City of Napa, County of Napa, Napa Recycling & Waste Services, Napa County Recycling & Waste Services, Napa Sanitation District, and Queen of the Valley Medical Center sponsor a free and anonymous Pharmaceutical and Sharps Collection Event on Saturday, October 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Queen of the Valley Medical Center, 1000 Trancas Street in Napa. Other drop-off locations will be available in Yountville and American Canyon. All sharps and household-generated pharmaceutical waste, including controlled substances, will be accepted at this one-time event. Sharps must be in puncture-resistant containers, and drugs should be consolidated in a Ziploc bag if possible. For more information on how to properly dispose of syringes, lancets and other sharps, please contact Napa County Environmental Management Department at 253-4471 or visit www.NapaRecycling.com.
