Unfortunately this is not representative of a large number of us who are paying roughly the sameRead More amount of debt off, but on $40K a year, and without the possibility to accrue savings, contribute to a retirement account (while still making loan payments), or invest in stocks. Would love to know what kind of income this couple has to make this kind of repayment possible in one year...

Two words: two incomes. Not as easy for us single income folks.

Thank you all for reading my blog post and taking the time to post comments. My intention in writingRead More this was to share what worked for us in paying off our loans. Obviously everyone's financial situation is different and I always encourage readers to chime in with ideas that I've missed. Having a dual-income family certainly helped but, combined, we still make well under six figures. We worked incredibly hard and made a lot of sacrifices to pay off our loans. I learned so much through this process and my hope is that some nugget of information shared here will help another person reach their financial goal. It may be as simple as creating a budget, or making the most of those two extra paychecks each year. Actions both large and small can make a big impact.

Yes, the drive is worth it. Even though it's not too far outta town, it still feels like I gotRead More outta town having dinner in Vacaville/Fairfield. I've had a better steak at Texas Roadhouse, at half the price, than some places in Napa!

You are right Michael - there certainly are a lot of great places to stretch your dollar outside ofRead More Napa. I suppose our family looks at it as a challenge to find local spots to frequent that keep us close to home (we love to walk downtown) and are budget friendly. There are more than you might think! I'm working on a post with some of our favorites, and always love to hear of other recommendations.
