Suspected Purse Thief Arrested in Browns Valley, Napa Police Say

A Browns Valley woman spotted a man with a woman's purse going door to door Tuesday night, then realized the purse was hers, Napa police said. A South Carolina man is suspected of stealing from multiple victims.

A 25-year-old South Carolina man was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of receiving stolen property after a resident called police to report a suspicious person at around 10 p.m., according to an arrest summary from the City of Napa Police Department:

Officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Scenic concerning a suspicious person. The reporting party saw a male subject going door to door in the neighborhood.

The reporting party thought it was strange the male subject was carrying what appeared to be a women’s purse. Moments later, the reporting party discovered her purse was missing from her vehicle and notified police.

Officers located a subject matching the description provided by the reporting party on the corner of Browns Valley Road and Dezerai Court. The Male subject was identified as Marcus Mack (25 yrs. out of Columbia, South Carolina).

Mack consented to a search of his person and was found to be in possession of several items not belonging to him; such as identification’s bank cards, cell phones, etc.

The original reporting party identified her stolen purse and suspect Mack.

At the time of the report, officers were able to identify four other victims of theft. Mack was placed under arrest for Possession of Stolen Property and booked at the Napa County Jail.
